Art, in different forms, is an integral part of many aspects of the curriculum, as well as being a subject in its own right. Art tasks are usually planned and constructed to coincide with opportunities, as and when they are presented, by stimulus from other curriculum areas. This approach gives purpose and relevance to the art activities. Our art programme meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and demonstrates breadth, balance, progression and continuity. Through opportunities to use colour, form, texture and pattern with different materials and processes, our children are encouraged to investigate and experiment before applying skills to an activity. Their art learning journey is recorded in sketch books from year 1 onwards and will include reflective opportunities for children to evaluate what went well. Our aim is for the children to achieve high standards in all areas of their artwork. The work of great artists, designers and sculptors will often provide the inspiration for an end product and examples from ‘experts’ will be enjoyed, studied and evaluated.
