I moved to Fareham and the Uplands estate from Southampton 28 years ago with my Husband and 3 year old son. My son subsequently came to Uplands Primary and during his time here we took an active part in the school as parents. My Husband Murray was Chair of the PTA (Parents Teachers Association) as it was then, for many years.
In later years I worked for Portsmouth City Council as a Human Resources Link Officer for 23 Portsmouth Schools and also covered 3 Southampton schools. For a while I have wanted to be a school Governor but could not do this in Portsmouth as there would have been a conflict of interest with work, so Uplands was an obvious choice and I was thrilled when a position became available.
I joined the Governing Body last September 2014 and immediately took up the role of Chair of Governors which I am thrilled and honoured to do. I have 2 Grandchildren currently at the school and another who left year 6 last year.
My role in education HR for Portsmouth has given me a good background knowledge to start although I have now moved on from this position and I am now the HR Manager for the EC Roberts Centre, which is a charity in Portsmouth supporting families in crisis.

Year 3/4 Link Governor

I have lived in Fareham for approximately 20 years.  I attended senior school in Fareham when I moved to the area from Kent.  I have been elected a School Governor since September 2013 and am currently a Co-op Governor and on the Finance and Payroll Committees.   I became aware of the vacancy initially back in 2013 through a work colleague.  I find the role interesting and worthwhile and it is good to put something back into the community and making a contribution to the education of future generations.  Uplands is a friendly and welcoming school and strives to ensure that each and every pupil fulfils their potential.  In my working life I am a Legal Executive and deal mainly with elderly clients and people in stressful situations, consequently I need to be patient and a good communicator and focussed on long term outcomes, such qualities I believe assist me as a school governor.  I have no children of my own so the opportunity to work with children as a governor is refreshing.

Sally Iverson - Co-opted Staff Governor - Term of office 4 Years ends 16th March 2019

No Pecuniary Interest
Appointed by Governing Body
Member of the Welfare & Curriculum Committee

My name is Sally Iverson and I have been part of Uplands Primary School for 18 years.  I have been a staff governor for the past 14 years and have been part of the Welfare & Curriculum and Finance sub-committees.  The most rewarding aspect of my role is to encourage children to become well rounded citizens and that I have been part of their journey.

Graham Wells - Staff Governor - Term of office 4 Years ends 1st February 2021

I have worked at Uplands for over four years and have also been a teacher representative for the Uplands School Association. I am a class based teacher in KS2 and lead the subjects of Computing and Science throughout the school. Working at Uplands has been a wonderful experience; helping children to develop into young people with many talents and skills. As a staff governor, I look forward to supporting the whole school further.

No Pecuniary Interest

Member of the Welfare & Curriculum & Finance Committee.

Headteacher's Performance Management Panel

Healthy & Safety Governor

Link Governor for Years 1 & 2

I have been a Parent Governor since November 2015. I have been sitting on both Finance and Welfare & Curriculum Sub-Committees while finding my feet as a Governor. I am also the link Governor for Year 1/2. Being a Governor is an interesting role and I am gaining a real insight into the complexities and challenges of how a school operates with the opportunity to contribute to the future planning of the school. My daughter currently attends Uplands and having a child at the school gives me a personal reason for ensuring Uplands remains a solid foundation for our young peoples futures.

Matthew Salmon - Parent Governor - Term of office ends 24th November 2019

No Pecuniary Interest

Chair of Finance Committee and member of the Curriculum Committee

Pay Committee / Appointments

Member of the Appeals/discipline committee

SIP Governor for Maths

I moved to Fareham twelve years ago and the Uplands area four years ago, with the intention of sending my children to Uplands Primary School. I have worked in the recruitment industry for 12 years since graduating in 2003, and set-up my own recruitment company since 2012. This professional experience has given me the commercial skills to fulfil my role as a Parent Governor, and Chair of the Finance Committee.

Since joining the governing board in November 2015 I have been sitting on the Finance and Welfare & Curriculum Sub-Committees, in order to develop and strengthen my knowledge of the school, and the challenges it faces in educating and nurturing our children. As a parent and a Parent Governor, I am keen to ensure that Uplands provides the best possible education for our children, and I look forward to contributing towards the future development of the school.

I have lived in Fareham for 20 years and my children attended Uplands school and  I now have a grandchild at the school. I decided up become a governor as I have a great interest in how the school is run and how it is progressing. I have been a Foster Carer with Hampshire County Council for 5 years and would like to share the skills I have gained with the school along with the training and skills gained from my level 3 Diploma in for the Children and young people's workforce.

Reading SIP Governor

My family and I moved to Fareham three years ago directly form the Falkland Islands.  Before this, we lived in Havant. I have two children at Uplands who absolutely love their school and their motivation and enjoyment has encouraged me to give support where I am able.  As a secondary school teacher of more than ten years with experience in the state, overseas and private sectors, I am passionate about the overall  education of the child and I believe the support and guidance we can give as governors, working closely with the senior management, staff and parents, will ensure Uplands School is a successful school and a fantastic place to learn as a pupil.
